JOB GOAL:  To help students understand their abilities, aptitudes and interests in light of the opportunities and   

                  demands they experience presently or may experience in the future.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

     1.  Hold the Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement as guidance counselor.

  1. Five years of successful teaching experience at least two years of which shall have been at the high school level.
  2. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel and members of the community.
  3. Evidence of having a minimum of 2,000 clock hours of occupational experiences in private sector or public employment other than education.

 

REPORTS TO:           Principal

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. To render assistance to students in group guidance and in individual counseling sessions.
  2. To assist students by appraising their interests, aptitudes, abilities, educational achievements, and personality development.
  3. To assist students in course selection, in accordance with available data, to enable them to utilize their abilities more fully as they move toward more realistic goals in education, employment, and life.
  4. To provide for the student’s orientation to the school and its offerings.
  5. To collect, organize pertinent data, and maintain a cumulative record of each student.
  6. To collect, organize, and disseminate occupational and education information with special emphasis on the high school offerings and on broad occupational information.
  7. To assist in administering the required State testing programs, administer various tests for counseling purposes, and provide for specialized testing programs.
  8. To submit and/or review referrals to the school psychologist, the visiting teacher, and the public health nurse with clearance by the principal.
  9. To assist in referrals, through the principal and the psychologist, for specialized service beyond those provided by the school.
  10. To assist in group sessions with teachers, parents community resources personnel and administrators.
  11. To make recommendations for schedule changes in consultation with the teacher and other personnel relative to individualizing instruction.
  12. To participate in sessions with teachers and other personnel relative to individualizing instruction.
  13. To confer with parents, in group or individual sessions, concerning the total school program as it relates to the education, vocational, and personal development of their children.

 

  1. To provide for articulation between the sending school and the receiving school.
  2. To supervise preparation of transcripts upon request of a receiving school.
  3. To promote effective public relations through participation in community activities.
  4. To cooperate in division-wide follow-up and research projects.
  5. To undertake, in a cooperative endeavor, the continuous evaluation of:
  6. The nature and scope of the guidance services as outlined above.
  7. The functioning of guidance as an integral part of the total educational program.
  8. The effectiveness of guidance services.
  9. To perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

 

 

EVALUATION:

            Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on

            evaluation of certificated personnel.
